New Jersey Elite Lacrosse was founded in 1998 as the Summit Elite Lacrosse Team. The team was originally established as a select high school boys team to allow Summit youth-league players an opportunity to play in some of the countries most competitive high school age summer all-star events. In 2000 the players voted to expand the team to include residents outside of Summit and the name was changed to reflect the expansion of the team. In 2002 a college men's team was added.
Each team selects players to represent New Jersey in some of the most prestigious and competitive lacrosse tournaments in the country. High school players are chosen from some of New Jersey's oldest and strongest programs. Past and present teams have included players from Bridgewater, Chatham, Delbarton, Mt. Lakes, Morristown, Pingry, Summit and Westfield. High school program highlights include championships at the STX/Upper Atlantic Championships, the New England Youth Championships and the New Jersey Elite Invitational. The college team includes players from the finest academic and lacrosse schools in the country. In their first year, the college team reached the quarter and semi-finals in two of the four tournaments entered.
